SUSPENSION
= Act of sublimation lead by each human being need to
express the unbearable function of enduring its own
condition
In
the Eighties as well as a part of the Nineties, CHAVANIS
first of all developed a work of sculpture, painting,
pastel, and engraving based on the representation neo-expressionnist
of the body.

CHAVANIS recalls us with force the unbearable brittleness

Today,
one retains the “unbearable” word to try to analyze
the evolution of the work of the artist. He proposes to us
sculptures installations on the basis of a simple intention:
to suspend the existence which is «unbearable».
Thanks to self-supporting metal structures, organized and
rational, CHAVANIS suspends initially (its works destroyed),
its own works, parcelled out, split up creations or reduced
in ashes, then packed up and conditioned in a transparent
limp (or imprisoned in plastic bags or stainless steel cages)
heavy and light at the same time, symbols of our pathetic
cover.
Thereafter, this action of suspension widened with the remainders
of its body : suspension of nails, hairs of barb, as well
as sperm in formol. Then to with the others, to the reality
and imaginary, to the conscience and the matter. Suspension
of a whole apartment, suspension of objects chosen for their
emotional load etc...
